Tata Sierra 2025 Is Making a Comeback — Here’s What We Know

Tata Motors is set to revive one of its most iconic nameplates with the new Tata Sierra, and the buzz is real. Slated for launch on 25 November 2025, this modern reinterpretation of the Sierra blends heritage design with cutting-edge technology, catering to both nostalgia lovers and new-age SUV buyers.

What’s New Under the Hood: Engine Specifications

The 2025 Tata Sierra will be available in multiple engine variants, according to reports:

  • 1.5 L turbo petrol (TGDI): This is the flagship ICE engine, producing around 170 PS of power and 280 Nm of torque.  It will be offered with both a 6-speed manual and an automatic gearbox (7-speed dual-clutch, per some sources).
  • 1.5 L naturally aspirated petrol: Expected to be the entry-level ICE option, helping to keep the base Sierra competitively priced.
  • Diesel option: A 1.5 L (or possibly 2.0 L Kryotec) diesel engine is also likely, with torque figures reported around 260–350 Nm depending on the report.
  • EV Variant: Tata will also offer an electric version of the Sierra. While the ICE versions will arrive first, the EV model is expected later (early 2026, according to some sources) on Tata’s Acti.ev platform, with a range likely exceeding 500 km.

Price Expectations

Based on the latest reports, the expected ex-showroom price for the new Sierra will roughly be:

  • ICE models: Between ₹ 11 lakh and ₹ 20 lakh.
  • EV variant: Likely to start around ₹ 18 lakh, and potentially go up to ₹ 24–25 lakh for higher-spec trims.

It’s worth noting that final pricing and variants will be officially revealed on the launch date, so these are educated estimates based on media reports.

Features & Design: What Makes This Sierra Special

  • Design Heritage: The new Sierra retains its classic DNA — wraparound rear glass, squared-off roofline — while adopting a modern five-door monocoque structure.
  • Tech-forward Cabin: One of the standout features is the triple-screen setup: a digital instrument cluster, a central infotainment screen, and a passenger-side display.
  • Premium Amenities: Level-2 ADAS (including adaptive cruise, lane assist, emergency braking), panoramic sunroof, 360° camera, ventilated seats, wireless phone charging, and more are expected in the feature list.
  • Safety: Advanced safety systems with multiple airbags, hill-hold assist, and electronic stability control are likely to be part of the package.

Competitors

The revived Sierra will compete in the mid-size SUV segment. Some of its main rivals are:

  • Hyundai Creta
  • Kia Seltos
  • Maruti Grand Vitara
  • Honda Elevate
  • Volkswagen Taigun / Skoda Kushaq

On the EV front, it may also face competition from the likes of MG ZS EV.

Why the Sierra’s Comeback Matters

The Tata Sierra holds a special place in Indian automotive history — its return isn’t just about reviving a nameplate, it’s about combining nostalgia with modern mobility. For Tata, it’s a way to expand its SUV portfolio with a model that resonates emotionally, while still being relevant in today’s highly competitive SUV market. With ICE and EV options, the Sierra could appeal to a broad audience: those who prefer conventional engines and those ready to go electric.
